Searching for air permits for each new project is a pain.

If you’re an air quality consultant like me, you’ve had to

  1. Figure out which state might have a comparable facility,
  2. Find the agency’s website where they store the permits (if they are even online),
  3. Use their archaic search interface to search by limited fields, and
  4. Then end up downloading so many permits only to search each PDF for the regulation or equipment you’re looking for.

It’s not always a guarantee after a couple of hours or more of searching that you’ll find the air permits you need. So maybe you'll instead take to searching your network drives for a couple more hours for that one permit from a few years ago.

State agency websites are not built to help air quality consultants, environmental lawyers, or environmental managers find permits quickly. They are built to reduce open records requests.

Improving the search experience for air permits is not a top priority for them. There has to be a better way to quickly find air permits for our projects with high accuracy.

Introducing The Environmental Database, a consolidated, easy-to-search database of air permits.

  • Search across all 50 states and local air districts from one interface.
  • Search by regulation, equipment type, or any other keyword across the entire text of the permit document.
  • We'll have the permits you’d otherwise have to make a FOIA request for.
  • Keep permits organized by tags and categories.
  • Have accounts for each person on your team and share permits with each other.
